Today's Project - An FM Oscillator
It's spring break this week, and I'm taking a few half days to enjoy the break with the kids. Today's project is the Velleman FM Oscillator Kit that Scott is giving a go. I'm chronicling his work here.
The kit let's you connect a microphone, iPod or MP3 output, or other sound generating device and broadcast an FM signal which can be picked up by FM receivers. Yes, pirate radio here near the shores of Lake Travis!
Here's some of Scott's handiwork in action:

Unbelievable...
Scott and I were down by the shopping center across 183 from the building that was struck by the plane. My phone didn't take a very good picture but here it is after some photoshop lightening:
This building is about a mile south of my work building and close to our former neighborhood in Northwest Hills.
Unbelievable...

Scott practicing his soldering skills
We got a solder practice kit for Scott to learn to solder. My skills were never much to brag about. Scott will be the man for our big electronics projects!

2010 BCS National Championship Game
The result wasn't what we all hoped for, but the game was exciting, and freshman, Garrett Gilbert began to show some of the promise that he displayed at Lake Travis.
Here's some pictures from the pregame tailgate, the pre-game festivities, and a day around LA taking in the sites.
Hook 'em!
