Claire Invited to Prestigious Excellence Tournament in Houston!

Claire was recognized by her coaches by setting a great example of putting herself in a position to take advantage of opportunity. To paraphrase Claire’s Head Coach:

...at 5pm on Friday evening Claire got a call from the Houston Excellence tournament (top 12 get a spot in the main draw, another 16 players get into the qualifying draw for the remaining 4 main draw spots). This is an extremely high level and important superchamp tournament. Claire immediately organized for the trip down to Houston Friday evening. She did not get on the court (indoors-2-2 no-ad scoring) until late in the day on Saturday. She lost 6-7, 5-7 to the #3 seed, but played with courage and showed herself that she can definitely compete at that level. She went out of her way to take advantage of that competitive opportunity. This will give her confidence in her abilities and positive energy knowing she did everything he could to take advantage of that opportunity.

Two of the character traits that champions show are commitment and determination. Claire’s Head Coach is very proud of Claire and rest of the ATA players who prepared well last week and who gave themselves the opportunity to compete this weekend.

Iced In!

The promised ice has come. I went out early this morning to check the driveway and it's a sheet of ice all the way to the street. The street was also glazed over. The forecast is for freezing rain thoughout the day turning to snow this evening.

We have a big hill which dumps into RR620 so the whole neighborhood is pretty much iced in.

Here's some pictures.

The kids are fired up that there is no school today, and I, like many others, am working remotely.

And then Came the Rains

It's been quite the rainy, dreary weekend outside.

The plans for the weekend was a tennis tournament for Kate up in Waco. She and Claire are aging up next month competing with the 15 and 16 year olds. Kate was getting a jump by starting in January.

I received a call Friday evening from a tournament director telling me that Claire had made a SuperExcellence tournament in Houston. This is an invitation tournament featuring the top-level SuperChamp players in the state. She had been a 5th alternate so we were not expecting this.

Deb and Claire hopped in the car and headed to Houston to stay with Kiki and Papa. Claire ended up played a great, highly-competitive match on Saturday, but did not prevail.

The rains cancelled play for Kate in Waco on Saturday. This was fortunate since Scott had a basketball game, and trying to be two places at once always proves to be a challenge. Scott's team played extremely well and Scott was picked as one of the two players of the game by his coach for his stellar defense.

There's a chance of ice storms tonight. If so, we'll get the camera busy and post the results. Now, back to the NFL playoffs...

Happy New Year, Captain Jack Sparrow

Scott had a chance to celebrate the new year by meeting Captain Jack Sparrow.

Actually, it's our neighbor Chris dressed up for the New Year's eve party they threw last night. We thought Scott would get a kick out of seeing Captain Jack. We walked over to our house, and Scott was definitely surprised as I announced the arrival of his favorite pirate.

Happy New Year to you and yours!
