Back to back Texas 4A State Champions
While Deb, Kate, and Claire stayed in Austin for the Austin Tennis Academy Christmas party, Meg, Scott, and I went to Waco to see the 4A Division 1 state football championship game between Lake Travis and Longview. Meg went with a friend, so I was Scott and loaded up on the soft drinks and road-tripped.
Lake Travis won pretty easily 48-23, with their quarterback breaking the all-time state passing record. He's verbally committed to UT, so we look forward to seeing him playing over next several years with hopefully similar success.
After the game, Scott stormed the field with the Lake Travis students and managed to make the Austin American Statesman sports section front page.
Way to wrangle your way in there, Scott!

Moonrise Over Lake Travis
Now this is a great way to get the weekend started! Here's a view from our deck of the full moon rising over the hills surrounding Lake Travis:
Update: No wonder it seemed so impressive. Because of it's elliptical orbit, it's the biggest and brightest in 15 years!
Update: Here's a slideshow with a few shots from tonight added:

Life Of a Tennis Parent
Deb's with Claire in Dallas this weekend for the Dallas Superchamp. Claire just won a thriller to extend her tournament into tomorrow. To give you a flavor for what Deb was going through, here's our third set text message exchange. Claire had won the first and the other girl (the overall 4-seed) won the second overcoming an early lead by Claire in the 2nd set.
Deb: Split (note: this was the last message of 2nd set)
Deb: Up 1-0
Jim: Did she serve first to start 3rd set?
Deb: Yes
Deb: 2-0
Jim: Let's go!
Deb: Getting cold - 3-0
Jim: Let's get a second break!
Deb: 4-0
Jim: Huge! Stay focused!
Deb: 4-1
Deb: 4-2
Jim: Big game.. Go!
Deb: 4-3
Jim: Breathe...
Deb: 4 all
Jim: A learning experience. Let's see how bad Claire wants it...
Deb: 4-5 down
Deb: 5 all
Jim: Fight!
Deb: 6-5 up
Jim: Fight!!!
Deb: Won 7-5 in 3rd
Who said tennis was a boring sport? Try being a tennis parent.
