Kate Re-SuperQualifies

On the climb up the tennis ladder, aging up to a new group can sometimes drop you down a level, as it did with Kate. In girls 17-18s she went from Super Champ to Champ level. This past weekend she decided she had enough of this and re-superqualified by winning the Berry Creek Champ tournament.

Here's how the Austin Tennis Academy reported Kate's performance:

Kate Cahill stormed through her girl’s 18 red draw, earning four straight victories and super champ status. In the final round she defeated the number one seed K. Usheva, 6-0, 7-5, to take the title.

“Kate played focused and determined tennis all weekend to accomplish her goal of re-qualifying for super champs,” Coach Brooks said. “I was very proud of the way she composed herself in close matches.”

Way to go, Kate!

Wildflowers at Easter 2009

A big storm rumbled through Austin in the wee hours this Easter day. The clouds cleared up through the morning and the skies open up to a brilliant blue. Here's a slideshow of some of the wildflowers blooming in the yard.

Happy Easter, all!

Meg Finishes First Among All Kids in UIL Science Competition

Meg Wins First Place At UIL Middle School Science CompetitionWarning, shameless bragging to follow...

Last weekend, Meg was among 30 students from Hudson Bend MS who competed in the UIL Science competition. Her teacher had asked her to lead a group of fellow students to prepare them in before-school meetings. They've been meeting over the last several months.

The competition was last Saturday at Hill Country MS in the Eanes school district, with seven middle schools the area school districts competing. These districts included Lake Travis, Eanes, Austin, and Dripping Springs. Meg estimates 120-150 kids took the test.

Meg completed the scheduled 45-minute test in 15 minutes. Her teacher called us later that evening excitedly to tell us that Meg scored the highest among all the kids who took the test.

We celebrated her fantastic accomplishment with some great Chuy's Tex Mex. Whoo hoo! Way to go, Meg!
