The pot of gold would be handy for future inflationary times.

All Boat Ramps Closed
Mansfield Dam Park's boat ramp is the last one to close on all of Lake Travis. It's now been closed for a couple of weeks given the low water levels.

Launching a Two-Liter Bottle
This is a project from a couple weeks ago. Scott and I had such success launching the first two-liter bottle, we couldn't find it. We suspect we inadvertently declared war on Steiner Ranch which is across Lake Austin from us. Thankfully, no return fire yet.
Here's a video of tonight's launch with a new two-liter bottle:
Whoo hoo!

Lake Travis Then and Now
Back in 2006, heavy rains through the spring and summer pushed the water levels in Lake Travis up over 700 feet above sea level (almost 20' above what's considered full--681'). Here's a picture I had looking out from the flooded parking lot at Mansfield Dam Park:
Today, Deb, Scott and I went over for a swim. The lake level is currently 635'. Here's a picture a pointing the same direction although past the parking lot:
It looks like we're getting close to where the Sometimes Islands will connect to Mansfield Dam Park and extend the park more than a mile into the main basin of the lake. With the level this low, you can again see the original path of the Colorado River before Mansfield Dam was built.
Some rain would be quite helpful!

Taking Modern Technology Old School
Here's a Make magazine project Scott and me tackled. You basically take an old transistor radio and connect a specially made cable from an iPod to the radio's speaker amplifier. Here's a Make magazine Youtube video showing the procedure.
Scott found some old Wolfman Jack recordings in MP3 format and downloaded them to his iPod.
Kind of freaky, it's like a time machine back to my younger days!

Looking up from Waverunner
Scott and I tooled around Lake Travis on a Waverunner earlier today. Note all the exposed rocks at bottom. The lake is now down 45 feet from full. Another 20 feet would be near its all time low.

Holding Stingrays Offshore the Grand Cayman Islands
With a little coaching from our captain, holding these Stingrays was quite fun!
